Meet the Family Series: Jason Wells & Mechanics of Faith
Keeping Struggling Families on the Road to a Brighter Future
Interview by Tess aka Mrs QuickTrick
Jason Wells is the heart and soul behind Mechanics of FAITH, a nonprofit organization with a mission to ensure that no family is stranded without transportation due to costly repairs. His journey began in his own driveway, where he witnessed the critical role reliable vehicles play in people’s lives. From accessing jobs and medical care to maintaining independence, Wells recognized the profound impact that affordable car repairs could have on struggling individuals.
Driven by this realization, Wells transitioned his efforts into a full-time commitment, establishing Mechanics of FAITH. The organization’s core belief is that “no one should be left without a vehicle to get them to and from their job, doctors’ appointments, or other needs because of a costly repair bill.” This principle underpins all of their programs:
- The Blessings Program: Collaborating with local nonprofits, Mechanics of FAITH extends its reach to provide car repairs for those in need, alleviating the difficult choice between essential needs like food, medical care, and employment.
- The Veterans Program: Recognizing the sacrifices of veterans, the organization partners with local groups to offer reliable transportation solutions, aiding their reintegration and reconnection with their communities.
- The Community Program: Mechanics of FAITH joins forces with various nonprofits to deliver affordable auto repairs and empower individuals with car maintenance knowledge.
Through these initiatives, Jason Wells and Mechanics of FAITH are making a tangible difference in the lives of countless families, individuals, veterans and more, ensuring they have the means to a better future.
So, let’s get into it!
Jason,
Thank you for spending some time with us. We know how busy you are, and we appreciate your sharing your time.
From Driveway to Community Lifeline
- QuickTrick: “We know you started by helping others in your driveway. What made you take this to the next level and become a full-time helping hand for your community?”
- Jason Wells: “Simply put, I wasn’t able to help enough people in need. In 2021, we assisted 24 families; in 2022, 90; in 2023, 186; and in 2024, 809. As you can see, we’ve grown significantly each year, allowing us to reach so many more individuals. The $1.6 million we’re working to raise isn’t just for 2025, it is for the future, for years to come. With our current growth trajectory, we anticipate helping over 12,000 families in the next five years.”
Stories That Resonate
- QuickTrick: “Can you tell us about one or two customers that stand out in your memory?”
- Jason Wells: “One client, Mrs. Hiner, truly exemplifies why this campaign matters. When her van broke down, she called us not only for repairs but also for a safe space to talk. As an Uber and Lyft driver, her van was her lifeline. The extensive repairs needed for inspection were beyond her means. Living on a fixed income, she faced a crisis: without her van, she risked going without food, falling behind on rent, and postponing a medical procedure. Our team worked tirelessly for over 12 hours to make her vehicle roadworthy. A week later, she called, her voice filled with emotion. Kim, our Service Manager, initially thought something was wrong. But then we realized—Mrs. Hiner was shouting praise and crying tears of joy because her car passed inspection. Think about that: she was overwhelmed with relief because a simple inspection sticker meant the world to her.”
- Jason Wells: “Another story that stays with me is that of Dimitri. He came to us through a referral from Change the World RVA, an organization helping youth facing housing insecurity. Dimitri had purchased a 2003 Toyota Celica to get to work, take his parents and siblings to appointments, and visit his grandmother. He barely made enough to keep the car running. When a check engine light came on, he was quoted over $2,000—more than the car was worth. We fixed it with a $50 part in a couple of hours. For a young man who felt the world was against him, it was great to provide help from trustworthy people.”
Serving the Community
- QuickTrick: “Do you ever have to turn anyone away, and what are the circumstances?”
- Jason Wells: “We do our best to never turn anyone down. While we generally serve those on government assistance, we try to help and support anyone we can.”
A Unique Service
- QuickTrick: “Do you know of any other organizations like yours in the US?”
- Jason Wells: “There are a few organizations that do some of what we do, but we’re the only ones doing it at this level, to my knowledge. We’ve connected with folks from Virginia to Washington State who do similar work. I’ve even FaceTimed a client in Alaska to help repair their car.”

Overcoming Challenges
- QuickTrick: “What were some of the toughest challenges you faced, and how did you overcome them?”
- Jason Wells: “Raising funds is the hardest. I don’t like asking for money, and many people still see us as a typical repair shop, which statistically has a 66% negative relationship with clients. It’s an uphill battle to show people we’re a nonprofit focused on community.”
Sharing Knowledge and Growth
- QuickTrick: “Would you be willing to help others get started by sharing knowledge?”
- Jason Wells: “Yes! I’ve even spoken with people about taking over our logo and brand in other states to grow Mechanics of Faith. The hard part is ensuring they reflect our values and understand we’re about the community, not the dollar.”
Thank you for sharing yourselves. What can QuickTrick family, and others, do to help and support you?
- QuickTrick: “We are proud to run the campaign to raise funds for the organization. What else can others do to help?”
- Jason Wells: “Share who we are and what we do; many people don’t even know we exist. We also need more scan tools and equipment discounts.”
